Ulaanbaatar

2006 - 2008

Introduction.

Gek and I lived in Ulaanbaatar through two Mongolian winters. Not bad winters by Mongolian standards but still pretty darned cold at times. The City was, and I suspect still is, in the throw's of reinventing itself after laying claim to the countries new found wealth in the form of natural resources the rest of the world seems to need.

Whilst most of the Ulaanbaatar's over 1 million inhabitants live in gers ranged all around the Soviet build city centre, much needed new housing is being provided to turn a tented city into a concrete city. No a bad thing in this case.

The Peking - Paris Rally passing through Ulaanbaatar was one of the most surreal events to happen in the city whilst we were there. There was even a car in this 2007 rally that had taken part in the original 1907 rally.
